Poles Apart - Amy's June Blog

I am LOVING being able to give you drama free updates! So once again I have had a great month with both my boys. Marmite is doing amazingly, growing nicely and for the first time, the little sick note also has a belly on him! He has been the sickliest youngster ever & has been incredibly hard to keep weight on, however Steph Taylor is doing a fantastic job with him & he truly looks the happiest, healthiest (not so little) two year old! One happy mum!

Woody has been ever the star & our continued work at home is beginning to pay off. Small changes to the way we develop our shoulder ins are beginning to help develop the correctness & bend in my nemesis movement. We have been continuing to work on the collection & self carriage in the trot work, asking him forwards & then sitting him back in what we like to call our ‘passagey’ trot. Developing this will be key in increasing our marks throughout our trot work. The canter is beginning to become phenomenal! Basically it is all heading in the right direction…. so much so, I have booked in last minute for the Sparsholt Festival of Dressage next month, keep checking back for our July update to see how we get on!

In between the regular training, we have been continuing to have our pole work lessons to really develop Woody’s activity behind. This horse is such a trier & it is evident he wants to please constantly. When he goes through the poles & makes a mistake, the next time round you can both see & feel the concentration as he makes sure he doesn’t make the same mistake, as he lifts a little higher & a little further. We even finished with a little jump! Our instructor could not believe the difference in Woody’s athleticism in his trot work after only three times playing with poles.

June also saw a visit to finally meet my amazing sponsors, Imperial Colt, at the Al Shira’aa Hickstead Derby meet. It was so great to be able to put faces to names & meet the people who have shown me & Woody so much support already this year. I truly couldn’t be more grateful. If you missed your chance to see them at the Hickstead Derby, they will be back next month at the Longines Royal International Horse Show 25-30th July. Make sure you head on down to see their amazing range, all at affordable prices.

Next month is set to hold more excitement so make sure you check back in to keep up to date with everything we are up to & the additions to the Imperial Colt line!
